It was slim pickings at the gas station after Mad Dogs anniversary celebrations the previous day, only 5 die-hards put in an appearance - Bob, Hans, Nigel, Geraud and Jean-Michel. After sharing out a pack of panadols a ride to Cenkarang golf course by way of Batavia for coffee was agreed on. We set off with Bob having the role of road captain thrust on him, while making good time down Buncit Nigel was almost taken out by a large chrome object which detached itself from Jean-Michel's Sportster and whistled past his ear like an artillery shell. At Batavia heads were cleared by copious amounts of fresh brewed coffee and we set off for the golf course, Bob led us off in a new direction, this would be a shorter route he said and we followed like lemmings. The road seemed to be in too good a condition for a back road and coming over the rise of a sweeping flyover we knew why as we were confronted with a string of toll booths! Being a one way road the only way to go now was forward. Bob coasted up to the toll booth operator, Rp. 2,000 a bike he declared, so we dutifully paid up and after a quick check around for any of those who protect and serve we blasted off at high speed to the golf course, it was a welcome relief when we finally could turn off at Sheraton Bandara and head in to the golf club. After a good breakfast and enjoying the excellent viewing we headed back to town, this time on the back road, and stopped off at Automall to view the show bikes. Gila joined up with us at this point and we decided to head to the Highlander for some cold ones, we got as far as Blok M when Gila's drive belt snapped and flew through the air (too many burn-outs??), his bike was pushed into the Ambara hotel car park for later pick up and we continued on to the Highlander. After cold refreshments, hot bar snacks and one broken bar stool we headed home. |
