Rides 2006

Belts, Bikes and Bare Bums

May 21

May  21 was this years Highland Gathering. For those that can remember back that far last years Highland gathering was held in torrential rain that totally washed out the event. This year, however, was a return to dry and warm conditions.

Meeting up at Mad Dogs at a respectful 8.30 AM 17 bikes headed out to the event some 30 Km away. At least it was this year as yours truly did a scouting run the day before so we didn’t have to do a tour of Medan to get there like last year.

We had a police escort although the traffic wasn’t too bad and apart from a couple of rough spots the roads were good apart from the 3,000 speed humps that we had to go over.

Good turn out at the event and we all wandered around and managed to find a variety of food and refreshments. Some of us had signed up for the Tug of War and we got thru the first pull but were beaten on the next round 10 minutes later by a fresh team that had not pulled yet.

As you can see by the first photo the dress code was kilts and Glen gave us a showing of what I exactly is under a kilt. In his case not much but it still wasn’t a pleasant sight !

Leaving around 3.00 PM we here going along fine until Christian ran foul on one of the speed humps and broke his belt. A 10 minute stop while we organised a truck to take him and his bike home.

The police escort was better looking than we have had before and we will have to see if we can keep up this standard for future runs.  Rounding out the journey back at Mad Dogs most broke up around 5.00 PM.

Another good ride and a good turn out on short notice from the club.
