These are some of the rides that happen thru the year.

Enjoy them, we did.

Waterfalls and Rain

Well, it was the weekend after Idul Fitri and a lot of guys were out of town. I didn’t expect anybody else to turn up at the gas station but we ended up with 5 bikes at 7.00 AM. I had not been up to the waterfalls for at least 18 months and nobody else even knew about them so we decided to head out to them.

Traffic was light and we made good time stopping only once for those who have to smoke, or  stand up for those of us with hard seating arrangements. Amazingly we made it up there without even one wrong turn. You are on top of a maintain and surrounded by a rainforest, great stuff! The place is called Wana Wisata Gunung Bunder.  After a drink stop we walked up to the waterfall and joined a bunch of locals frolicking in the  water. Too bad that a place as nice as this has to be covered in litter. Back on the bikes and around to the bamboo palace for a cold adult beverage. This place has moved since I was last there and now boasts a swimming pool, slides and more. Still very low key but it is clean and the food edible. The weather was still fine and sunny and we headed back the 80 or so kilometres into town.

By this stage the remaining 95 million other people on java had woken up and they all decided that it would be a good day to jump on the bike and also go visit the waterfalls.

Thankfully we were going against the tide but there were a couple of close calls as apparently 95 % of the road belonged to the people coming up the hill. Keep left? You must be joking. Anyway we made it safely to Pendopo and the service had NOT improved there. Got about 15 minutes out from there and the first rain fell. Quick stop to put cameras and hand phones into plastic bags then the rain stopped so we took off. Not for long however and then it just bucketed down, flooded roads everywhere and that made for some interesting riding thru water deeper than your foot pegs. To make life even more interesting it was solid traffic around Cinere. Lance got swiped by a passing car and unfortunately had a closer encounter with the muddy water than he needed. No to much damage to him or his bike thankfully and we were soon underway again.  Still pouring with rain we got back to Pondok Indah where we all split and headed for some hot showers and dry clothes. Even with the rain it was a really good ride and always good to show people new sights.
